Bernhard Eberle works solely as a printmaker specialising in linocut combined with collage as well as artists' books and paper objects.

Berhard Eberle formerly worked as a trained lead type printer and from this experience developed an interest in paper as an artistic medium, with a concentration on linocuts combined with collage, and artist's books.

The graphic work is characterised by reduced outlined forms and figures which contrast with the bold coloured flat areas and type face. Figures are often situated in space against the unprinted paper background. The flexible and brittle linoleum is consciously exploited, often printed on top of each other enhancing a three dimensional feel.

The colour, form and themes remind us of the silk-screen prints of pop art nostalgie, and together with found pieces of discarded paper scraps and used labels, the images evoke memories if the past. Bernhard prints the two by hand to give his work a unique and personal character.

The essential ingredient of all his work is the inclusion of text and word.

Eberle also produces multiples and objects made from paper and corrugated cardboard on which he prints and then assembles to form a new piece of work.

Bernhard Eberle's artists books are mostly one off pieces. They are boxes with three dimensional objects which act as a stage for the book. Most texts are written by Eberle himself and printed by hand.
